This moment will come to haunt him years later when they both approach Borros Baratheon in the hopes of securing the loyalty of Storm’s End for their respective mothers.

They were House Targaryen, and they ruled for centuries until one of their descendants fumbled the bag and let Robert Baratheon usurp the throne. Then came the story of Game of Thrones… and we all know how that turned out. In the first episode of House of the Dragon, two dreamers who are pivotal to the Targaryens' conquest of Westeros are mentioned. The first, known as Daenys the Dreamer, was the maiden daughter or a Targaryen nobleman in Valyria, the ancestral land where the family lived before settling at the island Dragonstone. Daenys had a dream about the destruction of Valyria, and she convinced their family to leave before the land was destroyed in a volcanic cataclysm, known as the Doom of Valyria.

But there’s that pesky looming question of who will inherit the crown, and when Aemma dies and the king remarries Alicent Hightower (told you she’d be back), things start to get testy in the Red Keep. Rhaenyra’s oldest son, Jacaerys (Leo Hart, and then Hary Collett) is supposed to inherit the throne after his mother. However, his dubious parentage will likely play a role in determining his future. Though ostensibly the son of Rhaenyra’s husband Laenor Velaryon, the audience knows that the couple have reached an agreement in which they can both have extramarital affairs because Laenor is gay.
Anyway, Daemion eventually had a son, Lord Aerion, who would name his first son Aegon. As we learn in the fantasy series, eventually, this young dragonlord would rise to lead the house and turn his ambitions west to the Seven Kingdoms, seeking to unite them under his banners. So the Targaryen family tree took root in Westeros, and the House of the Dragon began. Little is written of this time in the books, but one interesting note is that Aegon’s second son, Aerys, appears to have been made heir over his eldest brother. King Robert led a rebellion against the mad King Aerys Targaryen, earning him the title of ‘Usurper’ among Targaryen devotees.
Rhaena Targaryen (Eva Ossai-Gerning, and then Phoebe Campbell) is the younger sister of Baela. Baela is caught putting her egg in the fire in hopes that it will eventually produce a dragon. In order to become a dragonrider Rhaena will likely have to claim a dragon for herself, a harder task than simply bonding with a dragon whose egg was gifted to her in childhood. Joffrey Velaryon, the youngest of Rhaenyra’s sons, is just a baby when Rhaenyra and Laenor decide to leave King’s Landing because of the rumors circulating about their children’s parentage.
